06/11/2007 - Columbus, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A little over a week ago, Major League Soccer's defending cup holder, Houston, looked like it was heading for a rough stretch. The Dynamo were preparing for a three-games-in-eight-days stretch after starting the season 2-5-1. To make matters worse, the team would be without its top three scorers - Dwayne De Rosario, Brian Ching and Ricardo Clarke - for the final two of those games because of international call-ups. Things didn't look good for the champs.
What a difference a week makes.
Sunday, the Dynamo concluded their tough stretch by winning at the Columbus Crew, 2-1, to earn their third straight win. Now Houston (5-5-1) sits in second place in the Western Conference, three points behind FC Dallas with a game in hand.
Sunday's game started favorably for the visitors. After sitting back and defending in the early moments of the game, content to clog up the Columbus offensive third, the Dynamo were able to strike first.
Joseph Ngwenya notched his third goal of the season - his third-consecutive game with a goal - in the 22nd minute on a corner kick. Houston midfielder Brad Davis bent a left-footed corner kick towards the box which Ngwenya deflected off the far post with a perfectly timed header to make the score 1-0.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Crew's Alejandro Moreno knotted the score at one less than three minutes later. Guillermo Barros Schelotto deked past a defender before bending a cross into the box to a wide open Moreno, who made no mistake, heading past Pat Onstad for his first goal of the season.
In a span of three minutes, Ngwenya and Moreno, who were traded for each other on May 9, made their former teams pay for sending them out of town.
The Crew (1-4-5) showed what kind of bounces they have been getting to lead to a six-game winless streak about five minutes later when Houston midfielder Kelly Gray fired a low cross into the box on the rush. On the play, Chad Marshall, a normally reliable defender, stuck out his foot and deflected the Gray cross into his own net to make the score 2-1 Houston. The own goal turned out to be the difference in the game for the hard-luck Crew.
Columbus will try to bounce back and get into the win column when it plays at New England Saturday while Houston gets a break, with its next fixture scheduled for June 21 at CD Chivas USA.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.
Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.
Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.
A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.
Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.
Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.
And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds
With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy. A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
Current betting odds Heisman trophy are:
